LRC volunteer stands against backdrop of destroyed port in Beirut

Why we need your help

On August 4, a massive explosion destroyed the port of Beirut, the capital city of Lebanon. People died, families became homeless and livelihoods were destroyed.

The impact on the city and its people is immense.

The eastern part of Beirut’s port has been devastated, and buildings across the city severely damaged.

The British Red Cross works closely with the Lebanese Red Cross who were at the heart of the immediate response, and have a vital ongoing role in the fallout.

The recovery and rebuilding rests on a challenging backdrop of Lebanon’s ongoing economic crisis, and the tragic and complex challenges of the coronavirus pandemic.

People face a long, difficult road ahead. Please donate to our Beirut Emergency Appeal to help them.
